Aotearoa History & Culture...A new section in our library - Whare Mataurangi!
New Zealand's histories will be taught as part of the curriculum in schools and kura by 2022.
At the end of last year we hunted through our whole collection for books that could go into our new section 'Aotearoa History & Culture.' We had more books than we thought and we will add to this collection as new books are published.
Whare Mataurangi - Going on a Treasure Hunt in our School Library...
Our school library has had a few changes since the end of last year. Our Non-Fiction and Junior Non-Fiction areas have always been organised under big headings like Minibeasts, Planet Earth and Work it Last year students at Rāwhiti School helped to create signage for our Non-Fiction areas.
At the end of last year we changed our Fiction, Graphic Novel and Senior-Fiction areas to be grouped together by form/genre. Services to Schools had a great article on Genrefication for these areas.
Students at Rāwhiti School helped to decide where books would go because so many books could go into a few categories. Students in Tangaroa helped to create the new signage. This was such a massive job to sort every book and the library did look chaotic!
Today a group of students from Haumia-tiketike (Ata Hāpara) came in and completed a treasure hunt their Kaiako had prepared for them. What a great way to explore all the different areas of our library space!
Summer Reading Challenge 2020/2021...
Summertime Reading Challenge –

Christchurch City Libraries - Kids and Teens - ages 0 to 18 - tell us about your summer reads in three words and be in to win!
Summertime Reading Challenge is on from Tuesday 1 December 2020 to Sunday 28 February 2021.
For paper entries click here. Entries also available in each learning studio. Entries can be returned to any Christchurch City Library or to the school office.
To support the Summer Reading programme the school library will be open to students/whānau to issue books for the holidays on:
Friday 11th December – 3 to 4 pm.
Monday 14th December – 3 to 4 pm.
The school library will also be open the final week of school if you want to pop in during school hours, view our collection and issue any books! Remember we do have a Parent Library!

The Bloggin' Book Reviewers @ Rāwhiti School came together at the end of Term 2 to review some brand new books heading into our school library.
These books will be heading into our library for Term 3, some have already been processed and are ready to be issued.
If you visit our Library Web App and search 'Bloggin' Book Review' or 'Blogging Book Review' and search 'Tags' these books will show up!
