We’re going on a Bear Hunt...@Rāwhiti School... Friday 24th April 2020!

Bear hunts have been popular during our lockdown time. What’s in your window?

Below is my bear called Ted and he has been adopted. I can't knit so my Grandmother knitted Ted this lovely blue jersey. My Mum sewed his cotton pants and bow tie.

When I'm in my kitchen I've seen many children stop and admire Ted. During Easter Ted was holding a basket of wooden eggs. Sometimes he's a bit mischievous and hangs out of the window when its open.

I took Ted on a wee photo shoot around the garden because he loves fresh air and likes to see what's growing...

Charlotte has also written about the two teddies she has in her window.

Ted is chilling out in the garden...one photo there's a lemon tree behind him...you can just see some lemons growing!

Colin Thompson Jigsaw Puzzle - The Inventor's Cupboard...

Colin Thompson is an author and illustrator of many books.

I was surprised when I was given a jigsaw puzzle with a picture created by Colin Thompson. I didn't even know his artworks were used for jigsaws.

Ravensburger are excellent quality jigsaws and completing this 100's jigsaw was a joy. This was the first jigsaw I've completed in years and it was an absolutely brilliant! My favourite section was all of the tangly pipes. Can you spot the labrador dogs?

This year our theme is Growing!

Did you plant anything in your garden this year?

In the holidays I grew some giant sunflowers. The Bumblebees loved visiting...one Bumblebee flew away with so much pollen that it had to stop and wipe if all off! It looked like a little ball of yellow candy floss...

Our new Return Bin... Ngā whakahokia

Ngā whakahokia - Returns has had a revamp. It was just a black coloured box and often students would head into our library space and wonder where to return their book/s.

Now our return bin - Ngā whakahokia stands out. Thanks to some students in Ata Hāpara who created the lovely green pastel koru patterns.

Library signage...Front Facing Non-Fiction...

At Rāwhiti School all of our collection is front-facing. Our non-fiction is organised under broad themes/concepts. We put stickers on the top right of our non-fiction books that match our theme. This is replicated in our Junior non-fiction area - Take motuhake tamariki. These are often books that have bigger text or suit our junior students.

The signage on the library shelving is now complete. Groups of students in Ata Hāpara, Tāne Mahuta and Tāwhirimātea were responsible for the artworks that made the signage for the Older Picture book area, non-fiction area and fiction area.

It’s very rare to walk into a library space and find signage created by using student’s drawings.

The Junior-non-Fiction Area – Take motuhake tamariki has been revived! This is a popular area for the junior students at our school. Students from Rongo mā tāne and Papatūānuku helped to draw all the wonderful pictures that were used to make the colourful signage.

We have purchased many new and exciting books!
