Roblox & Minecraft Madness....

I think it's going to be a chilly holiday coming up.  Do you love Minecraft and Roblox?

We have some new Roblox and Minecraft books in our library.  Click here to fill in a form and go into the draw to be one of the first students to get your hands on one of these books for the up-in-coming holidays!  Books will be issued to these lucky students next week.

My favourite is 'Mobestiary.'  I don't know a lot about all of the mobs in Minecraft and this book is like menu full of tasty treats!

Mobs are divided up into categories - passive mobs, neutral mobs, utility mobs, hostile mobs, tameable mobs and boss mobs.  Did you know that a Guardian won't die if removed from water?  Each page has information relevant to each creature.  All of the information in this book has been collated by explorers known as Naturalists.  They've ventured out on expeditions to discover facts about these creatures.

This is the first book I've come across that has information about every mob in Minecraft.  The illustrations are by Anton Stenvall and they are simply superb!  It looks like black pen, or indian ink and a range of muted dyes.  Prints from this book are on sale to raise money for charity.  I wouldn't mind owning one of these prints!

Take the Chill out of Winter!

It's getting icy and chilly outside.  Jack Frost is definitely out and about in the mornings.  Why not take that chill out of Winter and read a good book!

Some books are very popular and the best way to get your hands on some books is to Reserve them.

How to Reserve:

*Reserve a book/s when you're next in the library

*Reserve book/s using our library Web App - library.rawhiti.school.nz

You all have a library login and password to log into the Library Web App.

If you've forgotten your login come and see us.  I've embedded a video that has instructions on how to Reserve a book - if you scrub along the video to 1 minute 40 seconds.  It is very easy to Reserve books!

Challenge: Recreate a Book Cover!

Do you have a favourite book?

This is your chance to recreate a book cover!

Remember it needs to be a book.  It also must be appropriate to recreate.  You may know of the book 'I need a New Bum,' please reframe from trying to replicate this book cover!

Post your photo on your school blog or SeeSaw.

Title for your Post: Recreate a Book Cover!

Write a blurb to tell us why you chose this book and anything of interest you want to share, like did you make some of the props...

Demon Dentist Book Review By Brooke

The below Book Review was written by Brooke.

Brooke's Book Review can also be viewed on our Library Web App when you search 'Demon Dentist.'

Book: Demon Dentist
Author: David Walliams

I love all of David Walliams books but I am going to post a review about this specific book because it was the first book I read by David Walliams.

First of all, when you look at the cover it tells you exactly what it is about. An evil dentist with an evil cat, trying to drill out the boy's teeth.

I love how it is such a big book so if you’re enjoying the book, it takes quite a while to finish. So, you can read more of it. Alright, Let’s get on with the storyline.

I like the storyline because it is so creative! In my opinion, all the storylines David Walliams comes up with are so creative and funny!

He also makes a lot of made-up words. Which I think is pretty cool! He shows all the characters in the book before you read the actual book so you know who is who.

Let’s get on with the actual book!

The story is about a boy called Alfie and he hated going to the dentist because of an incident that happened. He's been avoiding the dentist for ages. The last time he went to the dentist (When the incident happened) he was six years old.

When 12 year old Alfie went to assembly, the new dentist came to promote her dental clinic. Alfie and his friend Gabz got suspicious of her. At the end of the assembly, the dentist gave out sugar-free sweets and everyone came to get them. Except for Alfie and Gabz. Not long after that, Alfie was forced to go to the dentist and something terrible happened... After that, Gabz came to confront the dentist. Alfie soon realised that Gabz had been gone for a while so Alfie decided to face his fears and go to the dentist to find out the truth. Read the book to find out how the story ends.

Rating out of 10: 10/10

Would I recommend the book? Definitely!

I really enjoyed this book and if you get it out at the library or buy it, I hope you enjoy it too!

ANZAC Day...

This year we couldn't display any books about  ANZAC Day in our school library.  It was also the first time in more than a century that there were no dawn services to commemorate ANZAC Day.

We have a few books on ANZAC Day in our library.  Remember you can always search for books online using our school Web App - click here.

These are some of the books we have in our library...

A lot of Kiwis gathered in their bubbles outside by their letter boxes to pay their respect.  What did you do to commemorate ANZAC Day?

Read some blogs from students @Rāwhiti School About ANZAC Day:

Kaeden, Zara,  Ava,  - share information about ANZAC DAY.

Caitlyn - makes ANZAC Biscuits.

Eartha - creates a Lego ANZAC Day memorial.

Jai and Anameka - ANZAC Day Activities and remember Great Great Uncle Walter Watson

Jessica - cleans up and weeds around the poppies on Anzac Drive and shares facts about ANZAC Day.

Minttu - has an ANZAC Dinner.

Samuel and James - make giant poppies.

Jasmine - makes ANZAC biscuits.

Sanchia - draws some ANZAC poppies.

Greta - ANZAC poppies in her window - We're Going On A Bear Hunt.

Did you find any poppies when walking around your neighbourhood?

I put a poppy near Ted's ear and put a large poppy in the window...

The tallest handmade poppy I've ever seen!

We're going on a Bear Hunt...Te Haere ki te Rapu Pea

We’re going on a Bear Hunt...@Rāwhiti School... Friday 24th April 2020!

Bear hunts have been popular during our lockdown time.  What’s in your window?

Below is my bear called Ted and he has been adopted.  I can't knit so my Grandmother knitted Ted this lovely blue jersey.  My Mum sewed his cotton pants and bow tie.

When I'm in my kitchen I've seen many children stop and admire Ted.  During Easter Ted was holding a basket of wooden eggs.  Sometimes he's a bit mischievous and hangs out of the window when its open.

I took Ted on a wee photo shoot around the garden because he loves fresh air and likes to see what's growing...

Charlotte has also written about the two teddies she has in her window.

Ted looking out the window....getting some fresh air on a pile of garden waste because the dump is closed...
Ted is chilling out in the garden...one photo there's a lemon tree behind him...you can just see some lemons growing!

Colin Thompson Jigsaw Puzzle - The Inventor's Cupboard...

Colin Thompson is an author and illustrator of many books.

We have a number of books by Colin Thomspon in our Rāwhiti School library.  Have you ever read a book by Colin Thompson?

These are some of the books we have by Colin Thompson in our library...
I was surprised when I was given a jigsaw puzzle with a picture created by Colin Thompson.  I didn't even know his artworks were used for jigsaws.

Ravensburger are excellent quality jigsaws and completing this 100's jigsaw was a joy.  This was the first jigsaw I've completed in years and it was an absolutely brilliant!  My favourite section was all of the tangly pipes.  Can you spot the labrador dogs?

What have you been doing during the lockdown holidays?  Have you done any jigsaws?

Jigsaw: Ravensburger - The Inventor's Cupboard - Colin Thompson

Growing!

This year our theme is Growing!

Come and check out some of the books we have with the theme of 'Growing' in our school library.

Did you plant anything in your garden this year?

In the holidays I grew some giant sunflowers.  The Bumblebees loved visiting...one Bumblebee flew away with so much pollen that it had to stop and wipe if all off!  It looked like a little ball of yellow candy floss...

Our new Return Bin... Ngā whakahokia

Ngā whakahokia - Returns has had a revamp.  It was just a black coloured box and often students would head into our library space and wonder where to return their book/s.

Now our return bin - Ngā whakahokia stands out.  Thanks to some students in Ata Hāpara who created the lovely green pastel koru patterns.
